The lineman profession began in the 1840s with the introduction of the telegraph. Back, then lines were installed on trees- then poles- to facilitate long-distance communication. Nearly 180 years later, there are more than 120,000 lineworkers across the U.S. that commit every day to ensuring our lights stay on and our communities stay connected. The work requires a high degree of training, skill, and bravery. Lineworkers traverse challenging conditions and are the first responders when the power goes out. They work at heights, at all hours, and in extreme temperatures. Their work often goes unseen, but their impact is visible and felt by every single one of us.This National Lineman Appreciation Day, we want to recognize our teams at ե֭, and express our gratitude to lineworkers everywhere.
